Cinnamon is one of the first spices to be traded in the old world, and considered precious in ancient times. The aromatic essential oil present in it contributes to its aromatic composition. This highly coveted spice was so valuable in the ancient times, that it was often considered as precious as gold and ivory, and thus, was offered as valuable gifts to monarchs and Gods.
It is believed to have travelled to Egypt from China in 2000BCE. There are two variants of Cinnamon world over, one is cassia which the American sourced from Indonasia and China and other known as Cylon Cinnamon Verume also known as true cinnamon.
Cinnamon is actually a bark of a tree mostly cultivated in Malabar coast of India, its also cultivated in Hilly areas of Himalaya and northern India. The soil composition of the hilly areas and the rainfall contribute to enriched medicinal properties of cinnamon cultivated in the areas in the Himalayan terrains.
